Clubgoers Liz Trobishi, 16, and Nir Katz, 26, were shot dead by an unknown assailant Saturday night at a Tel Aviv youth center that caters to gays according to reports in Haaretz and The Jerusalem Post. Approximately 15 other clubgoers at the center were also injured in a hail of bullets allegedly fired by a single shooter. The motive of the killer is not known, but most people at the club, as well as the Israel gay community, believe it was a hate crime.

The gunman, who apparently attacked his/her victims with impunity, escaped. In a security conscious society such as Israel, it is rare that an attacker who targets a place of public assembly is not captured or killed at the scene, let alone able to flee the scene.

Tel Aviv police are currently searching for the shooter.
