This week, Buenos Aires City Council voted to proceed with impeachment hearings against Mayor Anibal Ibarra in the aftermath of the Los Callejeros concert tragedy on December 30, that took 193 lives and injured about 700 people, according to the Crowdsafe® Database. Families of the victims and concert tragedy survivors rallied in support of the city council’s decision.

Mayor Ibarra, pointing blame away from himself, says the district fire department is the government agency partially responsible for the tragedy. The fire department and other city safety officials are accused of allowing the club, Republica de la Cromagnon, to operate under unsafe conditions.

Club owner Omar Chaban and the club’s security director Raul Villareal already face murder charges for their alleged roles in this, the worst rock concert tragedy in history.

A number of city safety officers have also been charged with manslaughter for their alleged roles in the disaster.
